The biggest of them all is the Christmas gifts season and that definitely takes the cake as the number holiday shopping season also.

Talking of shopping for gifts online or in the stores the days after the thanksgivings sales kick off and go well into the Christmas day of course the partying and the celebration continue well till a few days after into the New Year day.

Let me begin this with the Christmas tradition and how it all started and then I will suggest in the next few posts the Christmas gifts and what and how to buy it.

As a winter festival most cultures in the earlier era used to celebrate not Christmas but something similar because of less agricultural work and more of feasting and sitting around the fire.

Raman Saturnalia celebrated as winter festival gave Christmas the signs of gift giving and merrymaking.


Origin of Christmas

There are several theories abound of when Christmas originated but Sextus Julius Africanus initially popularized the idea of Christ Born on December 25th.

Christmas date

December 25th referred to as the Christmas or Christmas day or the Christmastide is celebrate to mark the birth of Jesus of Nazareth.
The actual date of birth of Jesus may not have been this but it has been done so probably by the historian’s long time ago so as to coincide with some initial Roman solar festivals.

The Christmas traditions begin with most major of them which is the gift giving which is single biggest driver of the holiday season sales.
Traditionally also and even now there are several other things which happen during the Christmas time and those are the Christmas decorations.


Christmas Decorations

The most common of the Christmas decorations are the Christmas tree, Christmas lights and mistletoe. Then during Christmas you will see the nativity scenes and the holly.

Nativity of Christmas means that Christ was born to Virgin Mary. According to this Jesus was born to Virgin Mary, assisted by her husband Joseph and in the city of Bethlehem. According to popular tradition, the birth took place in a stable, surrounded by farm animals, though neither the stable nor the animals are mentioned in the Biblical accounts

Christmas Carols and Christmas songs
Carol is song or hymns whose lyrics are on the theme of Christmas and are sung in the period before Christmas.
Now Christmas songs may not be the same as carols but people sing Christmas songs are a mark of gaiety and joy and that means crazy funny Christmas songs, Christmas Irish songs, and Christmas folk songs

Santa Claus and Gifts

Come Christmas and the little red man in a red gear and with his sledge called Santa Claus is here and is considered to be Father Christmas. He is one of those mythological figures who have come to denote the gifts person for the children with the children expecting gifts form him in the stockings during the night.

Saint Nicholas or St. Nikolaus,SinterKlass, or Kris Kringle, Pere Noel, Joulupukki, Babbao Natale, Saint Basil, Father First are some of the other names for Santa Claus.
Also some cultures do have the Black Peter and some have elves to makes toys.

The image of the Santa Claus was created by the German cartoonist Thomas Nast in 1863.


Christmas tree and significance and other decorations.

Pagan tradition and the Winter Solctice had this ritual of evergreen boroughs and the tree worship. Form there it seems the Germans first used the Christmas tree in the 18th Century.

Some of the other plants associated with the Christmas tree are Poinsettia which has its origins in Mexico and was introduced in US by the Unites States Ambassador to Mexico Joel Roberts Poinsett. It is also know by some other names like Cuetlaxochitl (in Nahuatl Mexican language), Mexican flame leaf, Christmas star, Winter rose, Noche Buena, Lalupatae, Atatürk çiçeği ("Flower of Atatürk", in Turkey), Αλεξανδρινό (Alexandrian, in Greece), Pasqua and Stella di Natale (in Italy).

Other plants are holly, mistletoe, red amaryllis and Christmas cactus. Besides that other decoration includes lights, sledge and snowman. Some families display theChsritain villages.
Stockings, candles, candy, wreaths and angels are also some of the decorations that are done during the Christmas time.

As far as the economics are concerned America consumes about 35 to 40 million trees every Christmas season whereas Great Britain does about 8 million Trees.20, 000 Americans grow the Christmas tree and they use about 447000 acres of farmland.

Artificial Christmas tree is mostly sourced from China and with most of the economy doing badly people are usually searching for the discount Christmas trees.

Then for the Christmas tree you will need is the Christmas tree skirt kits as well tree toppers and some Christmas tree lighting and also some sort of Christmas tree stand which may be revolving or rotating tree stand. Of course needless to say all that means that Christmas tree decorations are a must.

Some decorations are Christmas tree worm and lights. Also you will need a storage container for the Christmas tree.

Nightmare before Christmas

It is a movie produced in 1993 by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Slick.
The characters include Jack Skellington, Sally, Doctor Finklestein, Mayor of Halloween town, Oogie Boogie, Lock Shock and Barrel, Santa Claus and Zero.

Christmas Shopping season

Christmas shopping season starts right after the Thanksgiving Day and ends traditionally with Christmas.

Christmas party and Christmas games
No Christmas is complete without the Christmas games and a good Christmas party. Party means can be adult or for kids. So there are people who play adult Christmas games as well as Christmas office party games.
Then there are workplace gift exchange games for Christmas or fro school going kids there are classroom Christmas games.

Christmas Crafts

As parents or teachers of kids you will like to have kids play the Christmas games and learn using the Christmas crafts like the twelve days of Christmas crafts or the clay pot crafts. You can use candles or old Christmas cards for the same or even with large pine cones. You can even teach your kids about candle making.
